Slide Biblically Stuck In CV Carb & Will Not Move

I saved a set of carbs for a 1982 GPz550 back in 1987 or so. Pre-ethanol carbs. They are beautiful and nice. I have had them in a box for over 20 years. I drained them prior to storage.

I am doing a check on them before giving them to a friend for his bike. PROBLEM: one slide refuses to budge. All other slides came out easily and look great.

I've tried all of the normal methods. Penatrating fluid of various kinds, vinegar, light tapping with a piece of bar stock, etc etc. No joy.

I am very ready to sacrifice the slide itself.

I briefly tried heat gun on the slide from both sides of the slide this morning but no joy.

Suggestions welcome!

It's the housing not the slide that you need to heat (heating the slide will expand it and make even tighter) you could try leaving it in a bucket of boiling water (replace the water when it cools

Use a torch, on all sides of the carb body.  I strongly recommend unganging the carbs first.  You can't properly clean the carbs while ganged together anyway.

I agree with Ed, unganging the carbs and heat on the carb in question, it certainly has worked for me in the past.

Boiling water if you don't hav an ultrasonic cleaner. Yes separate them

Heat the aluminum carb body as suggested above, then try carefully spraying the inner part of the slide itself with brake cleaner to cool the slide a little (you did remove the top cap from the carb body, didn't you?) Then tap the slide and gently pry from the bottom to free the slide. Might take several tries.  Be patient.

We hit the carb body with a heat gun and then sprayed it with ice water and it released. I did not take the carbs off the rack FYI.

They will need to be off the rack to get the passageways between the carbs clean and to replace the orings on the connecting tubes.

Why do so many guys try to avoid un-ganging the carbs?  It's not a hard job to separate and assemble them.  Just my 2c.

I agree sf4t7 but the task can be daunting for someone who hasn't done it before. And because i always seem to get banks of various carbs already "rebuilt", i really wish they had just left them alone before the attempt!! Just ask Ness, ha ha. Chopper i'm sure Ness could easily come-up with a kit of those fuel o-rings for You! Nice to do it now before you install them and find-out later. Luckily yours are truly straight foreword, no linked choke plates and tiny wound springs to contend with. I do my share of these, Keihin VB's. Used on a lot of the CB's of late 70's thru early 80's. So consider what you have in comparison pretty easy!

Why the F do you think? Because it's a bitch to do and there's always a chance, a strong chance in this case as these were drained and blown out in like 1986, that they will be operational.

Pretty sure the correct term here is separating

Unganging is what the streets of Oakland need.
