I recently purchased a 1979 KZ 650 SR to do a partial restore and resell it.  I've done this several times with other UJM's.   Used to ride but it got too dangerous after moving to Florida 25 years ago.  So, I cleaned the carbs, rebuilt the brake calipers, replaced the battery, spark plugs and did an oil change.   Also I replaced the handlebars.  The starter worked just find prior to doing this work.  Now the the starter does not turn over or even click.   My knowledge of electrical is minimal so a neighbor checked the start/kill switch to confirm that it's working properly. Also, the fuses all look functional.  What should be my next steps?  What am I missing?  I've read lots of previous posts but am not getting ideas.   Thanks in advance for your help.

You could try jumping across the lugs on the starter relay and see if the starter turns. Also make sure the clutch lever switch is connected and working. I have attached a simple diag. of the starter circuit.

“Replaced the handle bars” I’d be looking at a loose wire to the starter button RH control or the black wires that are the starter lockout on the LH control.

Very likely, I tend to push the guide with guys who aren't overly confident with electrics for two reasons. Firstly it took a significant effort to put it together but more importantly hopefully it will cultivate a logical approach to electrical fault finding

Thanks for taking the time to design the tutorial

Well, I admit to being old and a bit feeble-minded.  Plus, it's been several months since I attempted to start the bike.   (These are my excuses).  The problem was that I wasn't engaging the clutch.  Cranks fine now.  Most of the bikes I've tinkered with have been Honda's and I just don't remember having to engage the clutch to start the bike.  Feel free to just call a home and have them come get me.  Thanks for your ideas, especially the mention of the clutch.   Now I need to study the electronics guide and learn.

The Goul would play this. The Goul was a local guy that would play B movies on a late night show in the early 70’s if I remember correctly.

Halfway through was gonna offer, "did you put it neutral and/or pull in the clutch? Don't ask why I was. It absolutely never ever happened to me. Uh uh. Glad you got it sorted, sorta.
