Just kind of curious why someone would cut off center stand bracket so no center stand can be used to put an exhaust on that has to be completely removed just to change the oil.

Would it not be easier to use a paddock stand than mess about re-fitting a main stand for this purpose (my brackets are still in place as this is where my lift picks up from)

I use the centerstand only in wintertime when the Z is sleeping or when i want to change tires. The paddock stand is for oil change or chain cleening/ajustement.  I dont understatement People Who cut of the brackets.

Yea, i generally use my lift for oil changes and such, but i like having original stand. If id have issue along the road and need wheel off the ground for a broken chain, etc.  Thanks guys. Just wanted to ask others cause the guy i bought the bike from had a shit fit cause i took off the exhaust he had on it. Like i said, couldn't even change the oil without total removal.

I have a full collection of paddock stands, and I cut off my center stand lugs to clear the exhaust on my Suzuki. I have to drop the exhaust anyway to change the oil. To me, it's no big deal

Don't be ridiculous! It's only a flesh wound!

My center stand became a shop tool 40 years ago when installing my Kerker (now it's installed only for oil and filter, tire, and chain / sprocket changes).  Didn't notice any performance gains from the slight weight reduction

I installed a center stand on my 77' KZ 1000LTD because it didn't come with one but has the mounting brackets. It had the dealer mounted Kerker that was trashed. I replaced it with a stainless steel Delkevik that allows you to use a center stand.
No center stand on a chain driven bike kinda sucks.

Yeah, I kept the brackets on my pro street KZ and can just slide the bolts in and use the centerstand at the house if I need it. Its not designed for long rides. Race gas mix and big block cylinder. Doesnt like hot summer days much.

I guess it also depends how you use your bike. I can't speak for my KZ (yet) but many other bikes I have ridden had a tendency to "ground" the main stand on left hand bends which can be exciting   I guess this isn't an issue if your bike is set up for straight line performance
PS: real nice GPZ
