Z1r rear wheel? Help was created by ronnieV
Hey guys. I picked up a rear wheel I'm told is a z1r wheel. It's 18inch with what looks like 3 valve stems.

Do you have a specific question?

Yes, that could be a Z1R wheel.  It's 18" and has a 4-bolt rotor.  The drill pattern suggests the rotor is from a '79 or '80 model.

This wheel came with an inner tube and bead locks.  There are two holes for the bead locks, and one for the inner tube valve stem.  I'm guessing someone decided to run without a tube, and used 3 valve stems to plug all the holes.

Agree with DOHC, at least that is what it looks like to me. Can see tubeless on the tire.

I just wanted to verify if it was a z1r wheel in case I decide to list it for sale.

I just wanted to verify if it was a z1r wheel in case I decide to list it for sale.

Assuming this is a KZ1000 wheel, I believe the '78 and '80 Z1R used the same rear wheel as the '79 and '80 KZ1000A Mk2.  So you could advertise it as correct for either bike.

The KZ650C had a cast 18" rear wheel, but I believe used a smaller axle.  If this fits the larger KZ1000 axle, it's probably a KZ1000 wheel.

If you peek under the brake rotor, you should see a date stamp cast into the wheel.  The wheel I have matches pretty closely the date stamp on the frame.  For my '78 Z1R, the frame and wheel are both dated 11/77.

8/8/77 would be "78 model year" (post shut down model year change June/July)

I agree.  And I believe the only 1978 kz1000 model with a cast 18" rear wheel would be the Z1R.

But it still has the later brake rotor as well as the later rotor bolts (flanged bolts with no lock tabs).

Edit:  The '78 kz1000 police model also had an 18" cast rear, but it's a different part number and the edge of the wheel has a different lip shape.
