81 kz750 LTD wiring harness options was created by esmith3926
I just bought a 81 kz750 ltd that doesn’t run. I started tearing it down and found it doesn’t have any spark. I took out the wiring harness and the previous owner completely mangled the old harness. I need to replace it and was wondering if anyone has a lead on where I can get one, if there are other bikes I can take a wiring harness off of, or if building a custom one would be a better option. When looking at the options a website said I can use a Honda cb750 harness. I’d that true?

Kawasaki and partzilla have parts diagrams but no electrical drawing for the H2. the H1 drawing might help . 3 harnesses. main, center, rear. plus there are wire leads for the battery.  some of this can be available as nos on ebbay but also used. the main harness may be specific to your motorcycle. the center and/or rr were used on a few models, including the 750H1-H3 and 650csr which is a smaller cc version of the Ltd.  there's a used main harness on ebbay. not perfect. and not verified correct.

a honda wire harness isn't going to work.

There are a few things to consider -
what does "completely mangled" mean ? (most things are repairable - possibly with sections of a donor loom)
what are your electrical skill levels ? - custom building a loom is not  small task, also some colours (in the correct gauge) may be difficult to source
You may be "using a sledgehammer to crack a walnut"

As the other fella's mentioned, a Honda CB750 might be a chore. Oh the Beauty of instantaneous gratification thru the Blind leading the super Blind, still chuckle at it though. All Honda's had a Field coil arrangement and either mechanical (early) or electronic later starting in 1979. Honda liked the 3.5mm male terminals whereas Kawasaki used 4mm. Soo many differences, if You can't manage the "mangled" harness you've been dealt now don't even try to use a Honda spare! Like Wookie and H1V stated, buy a spare off ebay that looks "decent". I don't do a lot of these small bikes but better to have a templet to work with.

There are a number of 750E harnesses on ebay.  The E has a few different features compared to the H (LTD), but between the two harnesses, good chance you can piece together something usable.  I've done this sort of project before, and it's not hard.  You just have to lay the harness out on a big table, and trace each circuit.  It's gratifying work, that doesn't require you get elbow deep in grease, like wrenching the bike proper does.

The only thing I would add, if you you add sections from a donor loom it's best to stagger the splices. If they are all in the same place you will end up with a loom that looks like a snake that swollowed a sheep !!!!
