Hello everyone, I'm Ron and have stumbled across this site while preparing my '78 Z1-R for sale. I've owned and ridden Z's for over 50 years and are somewhat familiar with them. I'm also going to explain what it takes to make your Z handle as good as any bike you've ever ridden. No, I'm not drunk or crazy! This info will be valuable  to anyone with a Z model Kaw and possibly could help any bike. The difference in handling is astounding! Watch this video and you'll understand why. Thanks again and I look forward to learning and sharing. Ron

A lot of effort involved there Ron! The ole 1978 Z1R, first Z i ever owned back in 11th grade High School. That's what started this whole mess i call a hobby but has evolved to whatever you can call it now, ha. Why the sale after all that involvement?

Welcome to The aZylum, our little interwebs cornet of Motorcycle Madnezz.

Nice bike!

Sell it, ("Yay!!! Look at all this money!").   A few minutes/hours/days/months/years later, regret it ("Wish I'd never sold it ").  Seems to be the way it goes...

Thanks for the comments. I built this bike for my brother about 40 years ago, who bought it new. Like many of us, he got married, had kids and the bike had to go. I bought it from him in 1996 for two reasons, for one it's way to nice a bike to let go, but I also had so much work in it, I really didn't want to lose all that work for nothing. Without riding it, you cannot believe how well it handles. It's nice, really nice to come back from a brisk ride with smiles instead of white knuckles! As far as why I'm selling it, I'm 70 this year and it's time to thin down the "herd". Besides, I've still got a couple of Buells, a Harley, and  the "Mule", which is basically the same bike mods done to a '73 paint '74 Z-1 with Akronts and polished stainless spokes instead of the Italian mags. And, oh yeah, its a 1200 cc motor! Probably the closest street bike you'll get to a 500cc two stroke m/x bike type power band. It will wheelie over backwards in 2nd so fast it'll make your head spin. Throttle control is really important! So, while I will miss it, at least someone else will be able to enjoy this one.

It made pain in my a**, please change these ugly black turning lights to stock Z1 classic ones.
I´m loving Buell and HD bikes too.

BTW, your Akront wheels looking good!
