I don't know if it's art but it is paint. Got my white base shot. Have to wait 45 minutes for it to flash so I can tape my stripes. Here's a pic, not much to see yet.

How about a paint job in real time? Here's the redneck paint booth. Notice the gratuitous use of duct tape.

Yup Yup that's me. The boy in the bubble.

Well, now I know why everyone paints their stripes off center. It's a pain in the ass to get a centerline going on that tank. I'm a sloooow taper. Never make it in a real body shop. Here's the bits taped for racing stripes:

That's looking sweet! Is that blue painters tape I see...better not let the pro's on here see that :P

What brand/color paint are you using, what are you using to spray? I think you mentioned it in another thread or further back, but I'm lazy...

Uh oh, that blue tape is the low tack kind. I didn't know I wasn't supposed to use that. Too late now. The piant is all PPG shot from a Devilibis Finishline HVLP. The blue is a Ford SVT pearl blue and the white is just plain Ford white. Here's the tank unmasked:

I had some blue paint sneak under the tape in a small area on the back of the tank. I need to fix that before I shoot the clear. While I was painting, some biker gang pulled up in my drive to see what was up.

Nice wheels by the door - get to the half pipe/skate park much? :P

I used the blue painters tape too, I don't think I had low tack, though. The fact that you had fineline tape for the edges is what counts, I would think. I don't see it being a problem. Make sure you use some alcohol or other quick cleaner to make sure none of the adhesive is left on the paint or it will spoil the clear coat.
