Charity Run UPDATE
26 Aug 2007 09:48
Hi, again folks. I forgot that CC threads get nuked every week, so I can't add this post to my original one- d'oh! I'm re-doing the original post, so you'll know WTF I'm talking about...
I dropped by to let you know what a good friend of mine is up to...
This is a picture of Gwen Jordan. Some of you might remember her from her solo ride to Alaska last year. Nearly two months and 20,000 miles on her '93 BMW K1100.
Here's a link to her amazing trip, if you're not familiar with it, the solo part of her story starts around post #154. www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=142933
This August, she's planning to do a "50CC". That's a ride from one coast of the US to the other in 50 hours. And she's decided to make the trip worthwhile to others as well as a personal challenge for herself. I can't describe her plans better than she can, so here's another link...
www.advrider.com/forums/showp...89&postcount=1 .
Gwen isn't active on any sites except ADVrider, so, with her permission, I'm spreading the news.
UPDATE: Gwen is on her way from her home in Virginia to the starting point for her ride. She's also upped the ante, in order to get more contributors. She's changed the ride from the 50CC to the 100CCC. That's the east coast of the continental US to the west coast AND BACK in 100 hours. A friend fixed her up with a Star Traxx transmitter, so her ride can be followed in close to real time here:
www.tim1.us/traxx/v2_wms.html?&point=shoganai
She is the black 'X'.
Still time to contribute, see the link in the first post. If you go to the last pages of that thread, you can see the modifications she and her fiancee [Steverino] have made to the bike...
GO, GWEN, GO!

Hi Klacko,
I moved your thread to this "Bike Related" chat forum where it won't be purged.
Seems pretty well bike related to me.

This was posted by her fiancee about six hours ago...

1500 miles in 22 hours is an average speed of 68mph...
BTW, the total of contributions and pledges is at $7960. Her goal was $8000 :woohoo: A lot of people are saying she may make $10,000 before her ride ends. Any donation at all will help out the kids...

DISASTER... A couple of days ago, Gwen's ride came to an end when she crashed near Tuscon. While the details of the cause of the wreck aren't clear yet, the result is. Gwen suffered a burst fracture to one of her vertebrae, and a broken clavicle. She is resting in a Tuscon hospital now. The good news is that she has been fitted with a "turtle-shell" brace, and won't be facing back surgery. She will probably be released sometime this week, then she will be taking a long flight back to her home in Virginia.
Her BMW was totaled.
She did exceed her goal of $8000 in contributions- so far the total is in excess of $10,000. Thanks to all who helped, and please keep Gwen in your thoughts for a quick recovery...

Aw man, that's horrible news!
I've been randomly following her progress during her ride, and really hoped she would be able to reach her goal.
Being jobless right now I unfortunately wasn't, and am still not able to donate anything towards helping her out, but the Warden and I will certainly keep her in our prayers for a full recovery.
Good to see you're still around here Kris.
