if you have stock paint on it and in good shape. No not in a million years would i paint it. if you are hell bent on black, take you stock stuff of and save it, and buy some used body work to paint black. IMHO you will ruin a classic bike with a repaint.

Not to sound like Ron, but I won't paint a bike that just has decent stock paint on it, let alone perfect paint
You would probably get enough $$$ out of your stock stuff on eBay to buy another bike!!

Even I'd keep the stock stuff and find another set of parts to paint.

Everyone probably knows my answer. To me even original paint that is in horrible shape complete with dents/rust ect, is miles ahead of most repaints. Look at the 650 thread and see my point in painful reality. I'm even worse about repaints on cars/trucks believe it or not because most sit out in the sun and will turn to crap within 6 months to a yr after one of them there "professional" paintjobs. I've got a 1997 Ford F350 that sits in the sun 365 days a year. Paint is still darn near perfect. Would "not" happen on a repaint I'll guarantee. When my paint does eventually go bad, I don't care as it still looks OK to me even if it's all just rust. Strange to most people I suppose. What about body repairs? I don't do them because I've never had a fender bender yet in 31 yrs on the road, Thank you Lord

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Once you paint it you can never go back. Just keep it as is until you can find all the needed body parts on eBay. Then you can take your time and paint the ebay parts the way you want and not have any down time on your bike. You can always sell the original parts later for much more than you pay for the non-original ebay parts. You'll end up with the color you want and some cash left over, and the guy who buys your parts will be happy as a clam. It's called win-win. Ed

i will buy your old set of bodywork and give you a set to paint.
ron, even i agree with you on this one.
the only time i paint is when the orginal is too far gone to rescue.
don't do it!
