non running Z1R

I have a chance a getting a 78 Z1R here locally (not running). I won't say what the seller is asking but I'd like to know what you guys think is a fair price for a "complete bike" - except fairing-mileage not known...hopefully i will get a chance to look at it this week...thanks

You will see the occasional fairing on ebay, I saw an original Z1R fairing go for $200 last week. I would not worry too much if the bike does not run......does it at least turn over?
If the bike is in fact complete then I would say $1500 - $2000 range. But if you have cash in your hand and somebody just wants to sell it, offer a $1000 and you never know.....

The last time I checked the value of my '78 KZ1000 Z1R it was valued at just over $2000. Which is kind of funny since my '01 Dodge Neon R/T blue book value is around $4000! Some parts can be hard to find but getting your hands on this bike and back on the road is well worth the work! Good luck.

"Value" is a relative term. All the NADA and blue-book companys do is make calculated depreciations. NADA and KBB have finally made value guides that cover bikes not current enough to be found in the latest guides (the '78 Z1R is among those).

Great condition bikes go for a lot.
Roaches go for nuthin'.
Yours sounds like it's in between...we need pics. ;)

I will agree that pics are needed, but in all fairness, the ONLY one who can say what it is worth is you, the buyer. If you seen pics of the one I just got, and see the shape it was in when I got it, you will see that alot of work is needed to finish the bike and get her on the road. i can fairly say to just put her back ont he road and be complete(even if not super clean/nice) will be 700.00-1000.00 invest over the price paid. I paid 1500.00 for mine and am STILL smiling about it. Point being, if it is a bike you want, and this is how you can afford it, by getting it cheaper now and spending soem money over time, then by all means, GO FOR IT! If it is something you want to make a coin on later, figure out what it will cost to fix(from what you can gather from current info available) and how much you want to make over top of cost/investment/time spend, and offer the difference.

Excited was NOT the word. I actually gave up a lot nicer 78 LTD to get the Z1R and it cost me extra!!

GOOOODDDDDDD LUCKKKKKKK!!!!!! But, if like me, it is something you always wanted, spending twice(or even way more for that matter, lol) what it is worth to get the bike you want, then so be it. I know it doesnt make sense, but what can be said about the KZ lovers???

Cant wait to see pics.
