Got the 1982 KZ 1000 Today !
27 Sep 2007 17:25
I had the guy drop off the 1982 KZ1000 I been looking at. Got it for $1300. He changed the plugs, and brought the bike over. It runs great ! Im not going to ride it or start it again till I change the oil. ( the old owner realy overfilled it). The oil level is covering the whole sight glass even with the bike leaned over ! Tomorrow Im going to a great KZ place here that stocks tons of parts and 1st I plan on getting lower bars to get rid of the LTD bars, new clutch cable (so it will be shorter with lower bars), and retorque the head bolts. ( There is a small leak from the head gasket but I put a torque wrench on 2 of the bolts and set it to 29 ft. lbs. and they were loose). The bike is very clean, runs good, and starts up pretty quick. Overall Im really glad I bought the bike. I will post some pics tomorrow after I get a few things done on the bike.

That brings up my 1st question.....
I have the KZ1000 LTD "K-2" model exactly. I did some looking and was wondering if this actually has the "J" motor ? I looked at some specs and the 1000 LTD & 1000 M & K models have different engine specs. Are all the motors the same on the 1982 1000's or is there a difference ?
Thanks

IIRC, the only difference between the KZ1000J and the KZ1000M/K motors is the cams and carbs. That accounts for the 10 hp difference.
All use the 998 cc motor known a the "J" motor.

Yeah, like that's a requirement if you're telling us about a new bike. Pictures are a must!!!

Got to take a pic of the bike. It was all stock except so far I installed lower bars, shorter clutch cable, changed the oil, and a few other small things. Only other changes I might do next spring is a new 4-1 pipe and rejet the carbs. Other than that its staying original. All in all Im pretty satisfired with the bike. She runs really well now.
