The good guys
08 Sep 2015 14:43 - 25 Sep 2015 05:15
Finally got my head gasket today. The material around the cam chain shaft is wider than the stock 903 gasket I got last year. It should work out just fine.
I thought I'd start a thread on the good suppliers that I'm happy with. There are more and I'll post their cards when I dig them up.
Feel free to post the ones you're happy with so all can see and get the "Good Stuff.'" :woohoo:

If those are Cometic gaskets, they sell them direct. They will cut you any gasket in thier pattern catalog and sned to you the same day...
Really good quality gaskets, I love their stuff.

Yes, this is the head gasket. Tough to scan. Got a 205 shim just in case. I have the larger ones so I should be all set. Valve cover gasket in case I damage the one on there.

Yup that's it. I sprayed both sides of mine with a thin coat of Permatex Copper Spray-a-Gasket, high temp sealant.
No leaks and just under 700 miles now.

I expect to. The 903 has been on there for almost a year. 5000 miles, 115* in the summers (2), 30* in the winter, no leaks. Too bad it's so hot right now. I hate working in the shed. I have french doors leading into my living room but I'll have to take out some furniture out to do it.
I'll find a way.

"Motorcycle Parts Warehouse"! Great! "Gary Larson" He grew up on Grand Island, New York with the infamous "Puppet" legendary chassis builder and fabricator. And Paul Gast from "FBG". They started out in their teenage years, Gary was a little younger.
Puppet was an iron worker by trade, evolved into building VW Trikes, then Paul Gast asked him to build a 2 stroke frame, and the rest was history. Dave Shultz was also close to all of them. Shultz had about 5 H2 chassis's built by "PuP".
So Gary goes way back with Kawasaki 2 strokes. Gary is a dedicated Business man, He can order you anything.
He also was the founder of "Strip Bike dot com" Great reading over there.
I know drag bikes are not too popular here, But just a little drag bike motorcycle history.
I never met Gary, but I knew the rest of them guys. Lots of stories and memories.
Thanks Steve for triggering some old time memories. Just this weekend The U.S. Nationals, drags at Indy was where Elmer Trett was killed 19 years ago on his Mountain Magic III Top Fuel Nitro Kaw, Puppet built chassis, quickest bike in the world at the time!
Sorry for the tangent.

That's alright. I missed out on all the fun starting a family. My oldest and dearest client is going to the Isle of Man while the motorcycle races begin soon. She promised to send me some pics. She's become a globe trotter at 93. :woohoo:

09 Sep 2015 08:08I left the #20 pilot jets in and raised the needles one notch. That helped a bit. Not as much as I want.swest wrote: Did you get your carb issues resolved?

115 mains and a ten min ride on the freeway with a few 3/4 throttle blasts to only 6500-7000 rpm still has the plugs very light in color.
Getting an average of 43mpg over the last 700 miles. A little less then before top end overhaul.
