My first bike was a GPz550 I got while I was at SDSU. It is awfully nice to get to the front of the line at stop lights and not have to worry about traffic. Ever. I used to ride to visit friends in LA and I've had to split lanes a lot of the way. It sure would be a time saver here in GA. However, I realize the cagers are not as aware of bikes as California drivers so it will be risky at first.

I cringe when I see how they ride in some of the other countries.

Other countries don't have any traffic problems. :woohoo:

Of course if driving is too difficult one can always take the subway...

Don't really have a problem with folks doing it ...... I've always been too worried about another driver being a butt hole so I've never done it.... can see it increasing road rage by some that don't like bikers so be careful out there guys.

I was coming home on the 15 and at the split 215/15 traffic was stopped. Started worming my way through when this old man with a sticker on his trunk (I served in the Army in WW II) moved over to keep me from passing. Semi trucks in the right lane and another old guy just ahead of me in the right lane, saw this happening and moved over so I could go. He was wearing a Navy WW II hat. He smiled at me as I passed. I stopped next to the Army guy with his window open and yelled "You served in the Army alright, IN THE WACS." The Navy guy burst out laughing. :woohoo: There are jerks everywhere.

I lane split in my 60 mile round trip commute, and never treat it as a "right" to lane split, but a privilege. I have started wearing a camera for my protection, just in case. There are some Wacko's that split way too fast for me, and some that shouldn't at all. Loud pipes do not work as much as bright headlights, and my HID 55w System, lets them know I am coming up on them. Be careful, as there are those that have been hit, and those that will.

Camera makes it look a lot closer that it actually is.

It might be better to think about it as "decriminalized" rather than "legal". It's been a while since I rode in CA but recall that the police wouldn't do anything about it unless you were being a bonehead. I followed a CHiP bike one day. :-)

I split lanes on an KZ1000ST, in SoCal, back in the 90's and never got pulled over. But I also didn't ride like a fool, when traffic was <20mph... or anytime traffic was "heavy". The "RULE" I remember is that "2 vehicles could occupy the same lane at the same time". Sometimes there could be a number of us, cutting and heading with a destination in mind. Never got in an accident, but did loose a front signal to some cage idiots hand one time. Hope he felt it! LOL

But many times I would have vehicles, a full sized truck come to mind, that would deliberately restrict the lane if they saw a single headlight coming. There were always ways around that and ways to tell them they screwed up.

A little progress but no speed limits set. I prefer no more than 5-10 MPH faster than the speed of traffic.

Wait. It just became legal in 2017? I was splitting lanes all during the 80's.
Wish it were legal here. Sitting in traffic during the GA summers sucks out loud.
