Would love to see that in GA. It sucks to sit there idling in the GA summers when there is a clear path ahead.

Other states are considering it as well. Maybe contact your local AMA and see if there can be a pitition circulated for your state.

"Several other states, including Nevada, Georgia, Washington, Oregon and Texas, have considered legislation during the past two years that would have made lane splitting legal, with certain restrictions.

“We hope that other states will follow California’s lead on this issue,” Dingman said. “The AMA is here to support individuals, groups and legislators who want lane splitting made legal in their states, too."

Of course there will be a few that will abuse it. What I like about it is the awareness it will bring to the average driver like it's illegal to block or open a door to prevent a bike from passing. The way it was, a driver could do it and get away with it. If the rider got hurt, it would have been his/her fault. Long time coming. :woohoo:

Weird. I had thought it was legal for a long time. I see it all the time there.

Does that include 3-wheelers?

Maybe a minority here but I don't like lane splitting or riding 2 abreast. Seems to me that if we assert the right to a whole lane on the road then both of these actions say that we are entitled to a full lane, unless we decide otherwise.

I don't do it much. I did it most of the time in the early 70's in LA. This law will help drivers understand we aren't breaking the law or being reckless or selfish. It also gives us some protection. Here you have to have 3' clearance. A car can't fit in your lane that way. It's a work in progress. B)

It might be better to think about it as "decriminalized" rather than "legal". It's been a while since I rode in CA but recall that the police wouldn't do anything about it unless you were being a bonehead. I followed a CHiP bike one day. :-)

The western slope of Colorado has 14% increase in MC accidents and everybody has there panties in a bunch. Simply enforce the awareness laws. I really would like to see turn signals come to light to start with. And more motorcycle cops To enforce them. they could pay off the fleet in no time. Please dont get me started on the stoners thing, I believe in protecting my red neck rights.

There will be the stupid ones to ruin it for everyone else. Like anything else, it will take time for everyone to get use to it. B)
I cringe when I see how they ride in some of the other countries.
