I have a 1980 KZ1000,I would think it would be the same.Just lift the seat, hang the helmet on the hook and close/lock the seat.

Assuming it's a 1000-K Ltd, the helmet locks appear to be the same as my 81 650-CSR.
The helmet hook at the seat has a push-button that's spring loaded. push the red button to open. push the pin to close.
The rear helmet lock is on the right side of the bike & is operated by a key.

Yeah the lock is the same on my 82 csr I was just wondering the correct way to hang the helmet I've never used a helmet lock at all I was wondering if there was a correct way to hang the helmet do you use the strap? And is it safe to ride with the helmet on the lock I got the basic operation just wondering if there is a correct and/or incorrect way to hang the helmet on this lock specifically

Usually you can hook the helmet by the metal D loops.
Make sure the helmet or any loose strap (tie it up!) cannot get caught in the rear wheel, chain, shock etc.

Yeah that lock is really awkward to use. The cushion squishes my D rings and it's really tight, wish the opening was a little bigger. Luckily I have a 2nd lock on the other side, it's easier to use.
