Okay, so i picked up a 1981 KZ440 LTD (according to the gentleman selling it) now going through kz400.com and the model identification page, i discovered by getting engine numbers and frame numbers that its actually a 1980 KZ440D (im assuming) but then the manufacturing date says its from June of 1980 which makes me think its actually a 81 but like i stated earlier numbers all suggest its a 80. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Maybe the image below will help. It's the back page of the Kawasaki Service Manual. Ed

Partzilla indicates that they have four of the 125T drive belts in stock for the 440D. but the 129T is NLA.
I don't know if aftermarket are available. I've checked the PartsUnlimited catalogue in the past, but didn't find anything.
You can measure the teeth, belt width n stuff & figure out the pitch, then search using that info. maybe get something for a Harley. ??
FYI, you can convert the 440 Belt to chain drive & I believe it's a direct swap.

BELT, DRIVE, 125T 59011-1001. OEM. $129 at partzilla.

BELT,DRIVE,129T Not Available 59011-1009. NLA.

LED headlights have been discussed here several times. You might try searching for one of those threads.

P.S. June seems awfully early for a following year model. I thought they usually did not get cranked up on new model production until late August or early September.

I don't know much about the LED conversion, but the 440 should have a small headlight, something like 6-3/8 or thereabouts. The bigger KZs have a standard 7" headlight, and there are LED units that swap with an H4 bulb. The 440 has a sealed beam, but an H4 conversion is NLA as the lens unit mfg plant is in the Fukushima nuclear disaster exclusion zone caused by the 2011Tsunami (info from CandlePower). There may be a complete LED headlight w body available for the 440, especially since some Hondas probably had a small headlight.

Back in the good old days Kawasaki typically started a new year of production in July, but I have seen Z1B's that had May/74 stickers.....and still making Z1A's at the same time.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.
