Fuel capacity 77' KZ 1000

A couple/three days ago I drove a few miles more then usual on my KZ1000 when having to flip to the reserve switch over to keep going.
And when I stopped and filled the tank, it only seemed like a dozen miles or so later.... it took 3.9 gallons!! Holy Crap! I must have had nearly zero fuel left....

Something to be aware of...when you run your reserve empty you still have a bit of gas in the tank. The right side of the tank cannot flow to the left side. If you ever run out you can just pull your tank off and turn it sideways to get the remaining fuel over to the left side and then be on your way.

But don't forget to fill up ASAP!
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

It is much more easier to tilt the bike to the left side to get the fuel to the petcock area.

You might have a leak in the petcock.

Most of the early Kz900 and Kz1000 fuel tanks will not empty all of their fuel completely. Even on reserve some will not drain that last 1/2 gallon or so of fuel. What I did on my Kz1000 fuel tanks was weld in an extra early model petcock piece that the petcock mounts to on the right side of fuel tank. I also move those petcock mounts as far rearward on the tank as I can too. With the petcocks on both sides of fuel tank, they pickup ALL of the fuel in the tank!!!! There might be an ounce or two left in the tank, but thats it!!!

Left side petcock mount moved rearward with Z1r petcock.

The extra right side petcock mount welded to tank which is also moved rearward on tank with Z1r petcock.

No wonder it was so difficult to siphon drain all the fuel out of my 77-1000 tank.
