Well, it looks like the transition from a five-speed to a six-speed transmission has not gone well. I have been considering an FJR pretty seriously, but I am very disappointed at Yamaha’s solution.

I have a 2016 FJR and have already had this repair done. All is well...
FJRs are great touring bikes.

I was riding my 41 knucklehead, I turned left on a country road, a shift fork broke and the tranny went into two gears locking the tranny and rear wheel.
I was going about 35 mph when this happened, it was quite exciting, I kept the bike upright, my heat was beating pretty good when I stopped.

According to he article, Yamaha is reflashing the ecu and replacing axles. Not a word about replacing the weak gears.

I was sent a pic of my FJR with the engine out and completely dissembled. Pretty sure it is more involved than ECU and axles.

From then little I have read here it certainly appears Yamaha is addressing the trans issue head on. They even give a time estimate of repairs which may, or may not be completely accurate. BMW did not give a time estimate on the trans repair work on the K1600. How long the problem has existed is something else again, but it has been identified and correction process initiated. Saying a repair is 54 minutes long is a bit odd. Why not just say an hour?
