Looking for a reliable machine shop in lower MI
19 Mar 2021 10:29
Picking up an old 810 kit soon (if the guy sells to me, anyway) and having a tough time finding a place. My first thought was APE, but with a $90 markup for using my own pistons plus shipping, it seems like a wash vs. buying a new kit from them.
Essentially, I’m hoping for within riding distance from me.

I dont know of a shop here in Michigan for piston boring , But Pitstop Performance in Florida charges 180 Dollars for a KZ 1000 bore/ hone job
No idea on 810 kit from them but they distribute and help design kits with MTC co.
Call them or better and faster to use there E Mail from my experience with them.
They sold me my MTC turbo pistons and I sent them my block.
Part of there service was doing all ring gapping too

I haven’t tried these guys yet but I have talked to them. He didn’t shy away when I asked about machine work on our vintage engines. Im chasing car trouble currently or I’d have dropped off my head. I’m going to give them a try.

20 Mar 2021 04:24I’m in Lansing, so that’s not too far at all. No rush on the number, the guy is dragging his feet on responding, but it’ll be nice to have in any case.I have a number I can track down for a machinists in Ann Arbor if your interested. They were referred to me by Zachs racing crew in Milan.let me know if ya need it, I need 24 hours to find it in my phone # shoebox full of business cards. What town you nearest man?

Auto parts Machine shop & services, Ann Arbor Mi 1 (734) 663-9381
I have not used them yet, but great referrals from real racers. It has been my gained knowledge to get all the specs and (special details) in a info packet for a Mechanic or Machinists if they are not specialists.Good is good, but they don't know every single part/design unless its its highlighted for them and easy to read. If you do a couple hours of research and print outs it saves money from the get go. Be Well

Action Cycle Engineering in Portage, MI. They are not online that I know of. Has done a couple beautiful bore jobs and cylinder head work too for me. Been doing it since day 1, racing KZ's and GS's. Super knowledgeable and has stuff like filters, cables, etc. for these old bikes often in stock. Don't dilly dally though they are talking of retiring soon?
