First ride with my Son
01 Aug 2013 09:54 - 01 Aug 2013 09:56
Finally after a lot of work My sons bike is road worthy
Last night after work we took our first ride together, Zach has been to Starved Rock hundreds of times over the years but I know he has never seen the roads the same way he did last night.
This is his first bike and I have a lot to teach him in a very short time so we will be putting on some miles this week.

Very nice JD! That 650 looks great. Great bike which will serve him well for a long time. I meant to ask if you had repainted it the bike. The paint looks pristine in the pictures. Does the SS brake lines increase the stopping power of the bike any? I would think since the lines do not expand like rubber lines do, then all the force from the MC will go directly to the caliper.

Thanks guys, it's pretty cool but I'm still nervous about it.
He has a lot to learn but he is smart guy and very responsible so you got to let them grow up,right?
In a week he will be packing up the Ford truck with the bike in the back and head out to Berkeley CA
to work on his Masters Deg.in public health/infectious diseases :woohoo:
Joe, the front brake system was so filthy, I believe it was the original fluid
I like the stainless hoses, I put them on my bike too but I went with the black coating ones.
It makes sense that rubber lines might expand under pressure but they always worked for me.
I just figure that after 35 years fresh lines are in order.
Zach found a neat tip some where and he pre lubed the hoses with brake fluid using a syringe
It coats the inside hose walls and keeps air bubbles from sticking.
Worked good , only took about five mins. to bleed the system
The paint is original and looks nice on the tail and side covers but the tank is a mess on the out side , rust free inside
I'm working on cleaning up the tank some and keep the stripes, fixed a couple dents and where the brake fluid ate the right side.
a few more touch ups and a clear coat then it is what it is .
I finally got a chance to ride the 650 :woohoo:
It has a little hesitation at first but when the mains kick in she screams
The clutch is good , she shifts like a dream, much smoother then my bike  and has been tested to 90 mph so far and feels real good.
Tomorrow we can hopefully work on the tuning a little more.
