Z1 vs. CB750 Video
02 Dec 2016 04:23
I'm new here and thought I'd share a film I've made with a friend who owns a few seriously nice Z1s.
It's the story of the development of the first Z1 and how it had the CB750 to thank for its existence.
Shot in the South East of England while the weather was still good enough to get out on the roads.
Let me know what you think:

Thanks. and thank you Honda!
...
I've known the basic story & have seen other videos, but I'm a little surprised by the CB's hp... was expecting it to be lower.
Also, would riders back in the day notice the less-than-perfect handling?

Thanks Honda indeed.
I guess the perception of handling would have depended on what you were used to at the time.
If you stepped off a KH250, then maybe not

I bought my first CB750 in 1979, its was a K1 with an 850 kit, it had a braced frame and Koni shocks, it was a great first road bike and handled quite well. I had many more 750/4's after that one and had no trouble embarrassing a few mates on their early Z9's, in the back streets they didn't come close, ground clearance was my only limiting factor, never ran a center stand for that very reason....

Kind of interesting that it's a US spec Z1. The Z1's sold in the UK had a longer rear fender (or should I say mud guard), passenger seat strap and chrome disks instead of the yellow reflectors on the forks.

I was working at a Honda dealership in 1971 and I was occasionally allowed to take a CB750 home at night...I could not have been more thrilled. By 1975, I had moved to California where I bought a new Z1B...I haven't looked back since
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Nice little film. Good examples of the bikes, and cleanly presented.

I'd never buy one, but the chrome strip detail under the seat/tank on the Honda is pretty cool. Too bad cuz the CL is stacked with Hondas. lol
