Z1,A,B Cylinders barrel fins rubber plugs/dampners
19 Jun 2008 08:24
On the outside of the cylinders barrels, between the fins, there are 8 rubber plugs dampners to, my guess is, limit vibrations.
They are not listed on any parts book but the part # is 92074-030 and they are still available from Kawasaki.
My question is do you know exactly where do they go.
There must be 4 in front and 4 in the back.
The barrels have 8 fins, between which fins fo they go?

In a nutshell.. they keep your bike from singing from the vibrations.
I'm sure others will jump in with a better explanation.
I'd have to look at my bike , and I'm @ work now. So I can't answer you on placement.

That's a trip down memory lane. Those things fell out of mine many years ago and I forgot they were ever there.

There are, as you know, four on the outside front of the cylinder block, and four on the outside rear of the block. They insert at the base of the block (lowest fin) between cylinders 1&2 and cylinders 3&4...and they are, as mentioned, vibration dampners. Sometimes they work loose and can be fixed in placed with silicone...but they ain't, as mentioned, critical...I keep mine because Mother Kaw put them there for a reason:)

Mcdroid is right - these go at the base of the cylinder in the holes not ocupied by the cylinder studs. The holes don't go all of the way through the top. They fit large-diameter down (towards the crankcase).
I just bought 8 of these for my KZ900 - they are about $2 each as I remember. I took my cylinder head to my local NAPA shop for their heated aluminum cleaning. When I got the cylinders back, two of those dampers were loose. I wanted to replace them all.
I also mastered getting back the factory-like shine to the cylinders and head without clear coat or polishing away the natural casting marks and imperfections. I'll share those secrets later when I'm done with the entire assembly. These were about as bad as any seen - dull and oxidized plus stained really bad.
Regards,
Gordon

Yep, my first real motorcycle owned. I was 11 and it was 3. I've gone back and found every model I had growing up- well almost. I'm missing a 1975 GT550 in red.

Hello everyone, I was researching and it only uses 4 rubber stoppers, not 8, the old catalogs have errors.
The plugs come between the casing and the first fin to prevent accumulation of dirt.
