It is for any engine, as long as the specified clearance is 0.08 to 0.18 mm!

I was asked a question last night before I went to bed so I put this up. I don't use metric so I thought it would help him. If someone has a better one, please put it up.

A 650s range is .003 to .007.......... shims are .002.......... if you have .002 clearance and want .004 you put in one size smaller if you want .006 put in a shim 2 sizes smaller....... If you have .008 you put in one size larger to get.006..... Have .007 and want .005 same or leave it and let wear close it up......why even mess with the chart.

It's possible the chart for the 550 is the same, but probably best to use the 550 chart just in case.
I have a bunch of manuals you can download for the 550. You should get them all. The factory manual will have the shim chart. for a 550.

Also, before doing anything with the valve cover, read the warning for details about the valve cover related to the timing chain.
This is the same link in my signature. It also has details on the way to measure valve lash clearance, and better images for valve timing.

Also, if you follow the links in my signature, you will see a website specifically about your carburetors.

I'm so confused on how to do this. So I measure my clearances, find it on the left side of the chart. Then slide to whatever shim that's in it which would be at the top of the chart and that will tell me what size shim to put in?

Shims go up in increments of 5 thou. If yo need to increase the gap then you reduce the shim size. If you need to decrease the gap then you increase the shim size.
Eg if the gap is 8thou and you want to make it 18thou then reduce the shim size 2 sizes from what you have.
You don't need a chart. Just remember if you want a smaller gap increase the shim if you want a bigger gap decrease the shim.

Actually, shims go up in increment of .05mm, which is about .002"
