1978 KZ650 Piston rings Wiseco on Z1 Enterprises
05 Jan 2023 14:41
Wiseco sells replacement piston rings for a 1978 Kawasaki KZ650 on Z1 Enterprises. When I put the bike model in, Wiseco's 64mm piston rings come up. But it appears the STANDARD piston ring size is 62mm. Dumb question, but the 64mms wont fit right?
I feel so dumb. I ordered them trusting what Z1 had on their site.

Those rings are not for the OEM pistons.
They are for the Wiseco performance pistons.
Wiseco rings don't fit the Kawa pistons.
IMD sell rings to fit the Kawa pistons .

I wonder if these aftermarket ones you listed will stand the test of time?

The IMD ones are ok.
The partzilla are genuine.

I use rings from the Nippon Piston Ring (RPR) company of Japan.
Ebay seller GoergeFix helped me out, reasonable prices, compared to OEM.
I really like the green/red color marking on the oil ring expander, which indicates clearly where the "butt join" is, and shows clearly where the upper and lower oil rings gap must be.
Nicely packaged too:
