crankshaft issue?
05 Jun 2023 10:32 - 05 Jun 2023 10:36
Finally starting to put my 305 back together again and noticed this damage on the crankshaft under the right cylinder. Its more than superficial, I can easily feel that metal has been removed.
Is this a big problem? Hope not, coz I'm one big problem away from abandoning all hope for this bike. And what caused it? Shavings from the damaged piston I replaced 2 years ago, or something else?

Nothing wrong with that.
Crank webs are cast steel then machined smooth for balancing etc.
That is a trough in the casting that was too deep to removed when it was machined.

I'm surprised that the crank is cast. I thought the pieces were forged.
