Z1 Engine Seal Kits
04 Feb 2024 16:51 - 04 Feb 2024 21:33
I've looked at the usual suppliers and they all seem to be out of stock when it comes to an Engine Oil Seal Kit. This is a collection of all the shaft seals, about 8 pieces. It looks like the individual parts could be scrounged up one by one, but at a higher cost. I did see some on ebay but no idea as to the quality.
Any recommendations out there?

I have no idea what model bike you have, but the standard answer is to buy OEM parts.

Have you tried Partzilla? You would be buying OEM through them. Or go to your nearest Kawasaki dealer.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Some crap for Your consideration..and anyone else restoring the ole birds. Although OEM replacements Can't be beat when fresh rubber, gotta take into consideration if buying NOS (old stock). These seals could of been sitting on the shelves of peddlers, or original storefronts, for over half a century. These are rubber bits! Have ran across this recently purchasing a set of crankshaft seals for an old T250 1971 Suzuki id just finished restoring the engine on. They are odd-ball sizing so bought a set from old stock, complete crap, sealing lip shrunk and not worth a crap. Here something i do as a replacement for the 50yr old technology regarding the Z1/KZ shift shaft seals. Yes it's a Honda part, heresy you might say, but a bonus it's double-lipped and fits just fine and Ya never see it. It's a functional part. Same goes for the output shaft in the trans cover, i use a double-lipped Suzuki seal for the spacer collar. I know considering it's a 1973 You want to maintain originally! But unless you just pull it on a trailer show-to-show, i build them to run first. Pretty is just an after-product of LOVE.

I wonder if it would be a good idea to start making lists of such substitute parts and file them in the articles section? Maybe file them by KZ model ?

A recent project of rebuilding a Mikuni chain oil pump for a Z1-A led us down a surprisingly-deep oil seal rabbit hole. Turns out all oil seals aren't created equal, with significant variations in construction, materials and intended working environment. Some research & education was needed to choose the right seal.
No numerical parts list was published for the chain oil pump. We were working only with dimensions & environment.
Searching vendors revealed the wide variations in seals. One must know the working environment, dimensions, design codes & correct materials, among other things. Sites below, among others, can be searched by all needed seal parameters.

I feel Your pain Jim! I do my share of the Mikuni oil injection pumps with those odd-ball sizes of seals. I know Your chain oiler is a variant but same premise. I do the S/H and F Kawasaki and the DT/RD and RZ Yamaha series specific injection pumps. They can be a pain to find them bizarre sized bits! I cut an old 69-71 H1 500 clutch cover in half to utilize for a test rig, making due with one has, ha. And by all means stay away from this brand of oil seal, cracked sealing lips on all i've ever boughten straight out of the box.
