Exhaust cross over pipe on KZ750 twin

Can anyone tell me the purpose of the cross over pipe on a KZ750b twin.
Mine had rotted away along with the silencers, the original down pipes were re-chromed & re-used, the cross over outlets were blocked off & Dunstall silencers were fitted.
Is there any advantage to having the cross over pipe? BHP, torque etc?

The cross over balances the two cylinders which will aid "smoothness" and also boosts low end torque

I am not the expert on this and there are several here that have much more knowledge than me regarding the twins. I have not seen any data with and with out the cross over pipe related to HP or torque etc.  But in general, balance or equalizer chambers between the exhaust pipes, like on the stock 750 twin pipes, tend to flatten the torque peak(s) and widen the power band.  I would think you will not be able to notice much different by the seat of your pants so to speak.

I may make a st/steel section of pipe to fit in there then & see if it makes any difference. Thanks.

Someone here on KZR used copper pipe and fittings. you might be able to use copper saddles than can be secured w ss worm gear clamps. copper won't rust and it might be easier to work with. Just an FYI. the ZR-7s with engine based on the 750-4 had crossovers at the headers and I've seen the same thing on some other models.

Thank you for the information.
I have been lucky enough to find a piece of stainless steel pipe the right inside dia 31.5mm, so I will make some clamps up & fit this when I get time.

Decided to replace my missing cross-over pipe today, I believe the original had rotted away.
I managed to get hold of a length of st/steel pipe the other day that has an internal dia of 31.5mm which is absolutely perfect to fit on the original down pipe stubs.
I cut a piece 270mm long, put a couple of splits in it 20mm long from the ends & it fitted perfectly.
I don't know if it will make any difference or not, we will see.

A lovely morning to test my new cross over pipe today, can't really say I noticed much difference though.
