PS: don't forget to back off the cam chain tensioner before you re-fit

Appreciate the intel and advice Mcdroid and I will see if I can find the service manuals....I will need them. I believe the engine is the same as the carbeurated 1983 GPZ1100 and, if so, I can try and find the service manual for that. I am aware of the tank issue and understand that it was repaired. I have been riding it--vs. just showing it and intend to do more once I have the gasket repair done. I am the second owner and had been looking for one for a while but will keep you in mind if circumstances change.//Craig

28 Mar 2024 08:42Download the service manual here:
www.kzrider.com/filebase/download/21-kz1...z100r-service-manual
Thanks Howardhb. I had downloaded previously and I realized after looking for engine specifications that there appears to missing pages in the Base Manual--specifically section 6.5 and above and therefore is missing diagram for bolt removal order for head. At least I cannot seem to locate it within this manual. Whoever copied and uploaded did me/us a favour but it seems they missed some impt pages. I will keep searching and may choose to buy a service manual on ebay if unsuccessful. Thanks again, Craig

The 81 - 83 kz1000/1100 manual in the articles section should have what you need as these all use the "J" motor

HI McDroid....I have made progress on the gasket replacement and it was suggested to consider getting the engine painted. It was also brought to my attention that there is a specific 'black' colour that this engine has. Would you happen to know if that, 1) is accurate and 2) if so, where would I find the original colour of the engine. If I am going to do it I would like to get it as close to original as possible. It looks like an enamel paint and I don't think it is powder or ceramic coated.....but I may be wrong.
Thanks in advance.Craig
