Can a 1977 Z1000 A1 cylinder head with 8mm stud bolts for exhaust be used on a 1974 - 1975 Z1 900 engine?

Yes they can be swapped. Obviously, you’ll want to use the cam caps that came with the 8mm head. You probably should get the exhaust retaining collars for the 8mm studs but it’s not 100% necessary.

You may have to drill out the 900 exhaust collars, I know I had to do this when I put 8 mm studs on a 650 head as there is a 1/16" difference in diameter.

The only external difference is the larger exhaust studs. If you want to be sneaky use these.
6mm to 8mm stud
6mm to 8mm stud
