If you have 37.80 it look like you have space . look at picture 4  .I posted some more info from 1976 kz900 manua how to measure too

I also found a valve lifter with gouges on the inside. I have no clue of what could happen there !! The valve stem look ok.

It looks like the valve has been hitting off center and that there are welding boogers in there, too. I would consider using a different one.

Or maybe a keeper? And it look like TIG spot welding to replace the center.... RRRRrrrrrr!!

Anyway, a new lifter is on the way, but I'm disappointed with the salvage work that some shop of good reputation (...) in Montreal, Canada can do!
I called the mechanic who did this... No problem my friend,  I have done this several times.

This is why I outsource as little as possible, you just don't know what you are going to get for the chunks of money it costs you

The valve spring keeper that were installed are not the right one (round grouve instead of square). I ordered OEM part # 12011-002.
 
There was 7 valves with round and 1 with square keeper. Maybe it was related to the valve lifter issue :(

I'm just about to make free publicity for that shop in Longueuil Quebec, Canada that did the work !
