22 Feb 2025 05:51Agree 100% with asphalt900 and Nessism. The stock fibers are good-to-go and well proven in 250+hp Kaw motors.Ditto what Nessium said!! If side by side comparision you'll note the fibre plate tabs are steel and have sharp edges on the tabs that fit into clutch basket. I've never used them because of this fact. They "notch" up the basket slots much faster then originals. But you can't deny they work, persons have used them for years successively.

The new Barnett friction plates are currently made with Kevlar.
Are Kevlar plates more abrasive/aggressive than the old ones made with the brown-red surface material?

We may have different definitions of "new": I installed a Barnett Kevlar clutch kit in the GPz in 1993.

I assume the clay-like red/brown material predates Kevlar and may therefore be less abrasive, but that wouldn't mean it provides less grip necessarily...
