bit by the Amazon bug

Big learning experience here...

Bought a carb rebuild kit for the KZ700 from Amazon. Had decent reviews.
Upon arrival, a few things didnt match at all.
The main jets that were supposed to be 110 and 115, got 122 and 125. Pilot jets were supposed to be stock 37.5.
Only discovered after some troubleshooting that they're NOT the same size as stock. All dimensions are the same, but there's an extra 6 holes.
Explains why it started so good with no choke, but fell on its face under any throttle.

My symptoms were:
Easy start, didnt want to rev past idle speed under load. once it got past about 2500 rpm, it was came alive (very slow advance on throttle).
Spark plugs damp on all cylinders.
Ran kind of choppy once warm. coughed and sputtered a lot.

For diagnostic purposes, I soldered the extra holes shut on the Amazon pilots. Tried it out, and it now needs choke when cold. It runs amazing once warmed up a little. Pulls like a rocket!

Other issues with amazon kit:
Main needles: extremely poor machining. taper did not match from needle to needle. machining grooves along entire length of needle.
Fuel screw: completely wrong. wrong length. wrong thread.
Bowl drain screw: wrong length. wrong thread.

Usable:
new bowl gaskets
float valve
float seat, including screens

Didnt try:
choke plunger
fuel screw spring
fuel screw washer
fuel screw o-ring

Anyone else have some Amazon knockoff horror stories?
The air box boots from amazon, work great! ( www.amazon.com/dp/B08G616JSX )

It's common knowledge that 99.9% of all pattern carbs kits are garbage.
Almost everyone will tell you to only use genuine Mikuni or Keihin etc replacements and if not available then Japanese Keyster items.

As for the Amazon bug.
You should get innoculated as soon as possible and limit further contact.

Standard wisdom has it to clean and reuse all the original brass jets and such.  Replace O-rings and bowl gaskets, and anything else that's damaged.

This tutorial is for the Suzuki flavor of the same carbs as yours.  Most details are the same.

If you still have the brass, clean and reuse.  And replace all the O-rings.  I have a kit if you are in need.

Just gave the guide a read. That is great! Thank you!
I mucked up one of the original pilots. So needed a replacement anyways.
I have reused as much of the original brass as i could.
