1979 KZ 650 B3 what are the carbs was created by Vietvet
I just stripped down the carb assembly ready for vapour blasting and I found that in one of the float bowls there was a ball and weight came out. I checked the other 3 and they were secured by a very tiny spring. I don't know what it is called or what it is for. Looking at parts diagrams it does not even come up as a part. These items are not in any parts list I have found. Any ideas appreciated, TIA

That ball, weight, and c clip are for the accelerator pump feed. Each float bowl should have these parts or the accelerator pump won't work.

Took about 2 minutes to locate... but it looks like only the O ring is still available to order, so don't loose those parts!

Is it possible to bypass the pump, disconnect the rod and just adjust the jets to make up for not having the pump. I don't like accelerateor pumps. Back in 1974 I had a Ducati 750 GT which h had Dellorto cards with them, my mates used to twist the throttle to pump them while I was else where and then stand back and laugh as I had to kick start a flooded engine.

Do your carbs have one diaphragm on the float bowl, or two? The carbs with two are more problematic than those with just one. If you have the single diaphragm type carbs, you may want to just keep it.

There are two at the base of number two carb. I will order a repair kit for it and hope that the little spring clips are included. Long term I might look around for a second hand set of carbs off a Z650 which the rest of the World got and didn't have all this junk just to satisfy the Californian system.

Correctly functioning "accelerator pumps" are a good thing, they eliminate "hesitation" when snapping the throttle openThere are two at the base of number two carb. The non pumper bowls don't have the drilling for the check valve and also block off the passage to pumper nozzle.

You can either disable the pumper mechanism or simply remove the pumper rod and replace the pumper float bowls with those from a set of non pumper VM's.Long term I might look around for a second hand set of carbs off a Z650 which the rest of the World got and didn't have all this junk just to satisfy the Californian system.

The K&L kit includes the spring. replacing the bowls and trying to bypass it isn't worth the trouble. test the pump by rigging a fuel supply, then vigorously actuate the throttle pulley. fuel should squirt out each nozzle w/o hitting the carb bore walls. after installing the parts, if the carbs are gummed up, the problem isn't the pump, it's clogged orifices.
