Rebuild kit has wrong float valve needle? Do I have a different carb?
24 Feb 2025 11:25
Excuse my lack of eduction on the topic, this is my first time doing a rebuild. I'm at a total loss here. The bike is a 1981 KZ550A2 Standard. I ordered 4 rebuild kits (Sku: 200-1152, they're Keyster by the way) from Z1 Enterprises. I noticed the float valve needle that came with the kit is much smaller than the originals, and definitely does not fit properly. Does my bike have a different carb? What's going on??

In your video, the first carb you show, has the needle binding in the seat. On the second carb shown, the needle is sliding in the seat they way it should.

Oh interesting, ok. Even still, is it not abnormal that the kit came with a different sized valve? The new one is smaller in every dimension.

Can you post photos of both float valves side by side?

24 Feb 2025 18:08 - 24 Feb 2025 18:08What about the seat? The seat and needle are a set.For sure
With both needles fully inserted into their respective seat, how does the height compare then?

Ok yeah so I feel really dumb, its just fine. I put an original one in because I managed to lose one of the new ones, and I was going to use the original because it still felt ok (This bike is rough and my goal is only to have it run in general). Looks like ill be ordering a new one regardless. Anyways, thank you for your help!
