cylinder identification kz650
19 Jul 2020 18:27
good day .. I would appreciate your help with the following consultation. I just changed the ignition on my 79 kawa 650b, and now I have to connect all 4 coils to the cylinders. but I don't know how to list them if from left to right or vice versa
What would cylinder 1 be?
Thanks for your help!

Do you mean 4 coils or 4 plug leads? No1 one is left when sitting on the bike and obviously no 4 is right.
650 b's have 2 coils with 2 leads each. 1 coil goes to 1 and 4, the other goes to 2 and 3. It doesnt matter if you go 1 and 4 or 4 and 1 as they both spark at the same time. As do 2 and 3. Its called a wasted spark system. Ie each cylinder will spark on BOTH the compression and exhaust stroke.

All Kawasaki KZ650 motorcycles came with 2 coils not 4. Did you somehow modify the bike when you "changed the ignition"? Ed

Howdy. The cylinders & carburetors etc are numbered 1-2-3-4 left-to-right as you're sitting on the motorcycle. The firing order is 1-2-4-3.
The 1-4 spark plug wires go to one ignition coil & 2-3 go to the other. I'd guess the 1-4 ignition coil is on the RH side.
On my 81 KZ650-CSR w stock electronic ignition the RH 1-4 ignition coil has the black & red wires, and the LH 2-3 coil has green & red. red is the power wire (+). Your power wire may be yellow/red. see wiring diagram link below.

I guess the original poster (Migcr73) fell off the edge of the Earth. Ed
