1983 KZ250 What is this part?

Hi Everyone,

Is anyone familiar with this wire harness? it's from my 1983 KZ250 single. This bike has the electronic ignition unit.

It appears to be an OEM part and sits between the pickup coil and the main wire harness. The bike now won't start with it in line. Once I remove it, the bike starts but ticks.

If anyone has some info about this part please let me know. The bike was working with this part in line until recently.

Yes, it is the planned obsolescence unit, you need a new Kawasaki.

I'd check resistance on the green wire with your meter.
Check in one direction then reverse the leads and check in the other direction.
Is it possible to see what is under that heat shrink

tubing?

Thanks for the suggestion. They seem to be two simple wires with a bridging resistor under the heat wrap on the one end. From end to end of wire the resistance is 003. When you check across the wires the resistance is 205.

I have ordered a second hand stator, pickup coil and that small wire harness on eBay to compare. Open to any other suggestions.

I just pulled back the heat wrap and took a closer look at the bridging resistor. Might have a corroded wire...
