KZ550/GPz550 Horn Upgrade
25 Oct 2020 16:37
I would like to upgrade the anemic OEM horn on my 81 GPz550. The horn is a two terminal type and is pretty wimpy. Anyone have a good bolt on aftermarket horn they recommend?

The standard horn on my KZ750 is pretty good by itself. The horn on my KZ250 didn't work, so I just brought a battery to my local bike wreckers and tested what they had and bought one of those. Most standard horns are pretty good unless they corroded and broken, or Chinese rubbish.
I put a stebel nautilus compact air horn on my mini, and it is great. A bit larger than a standard bike horn though, so it might need a bit of work to fit to a bike.

I installed a Fiamm horn on my KZ650. It is a Fiamm 72112 Freeway Blaster Horn (Low Tone - F). I put it on the frame up behind the triple tree, and it cannot be seen there. I was able to hook it up without cutting any wires and with keeping the stock horn in place and operational (see wiring diagram below). It is much louder than the stock KZ650 horn (see and hear image below). Ed

1998 vw bug horns.
2 horns hi/lo. $30 ebay
Pretty loud
Although, the new Toyotas have some loud horns as well.
I tend to notice the loud ones when walking around Manhattan. These horns show up on Camrys as well as other models.
I stay away from air horns as a main horn because of the delay.
