81 kz440 aftermarket ignition switch
19 Nov 2020 21:52
Purchased a generic ign switch to replace bad one on a 81kz440. I'm sure many have done similar but I can't figure out what connections f to make from new to old wires. Different colors. Pics attached. First pic is stock wires. 2nd pic is new switch wires. Thanks

If I were in that position, I would get out a factory wiring diagram, which you can find here -
www.kzrider.com/modules/ServiceManuals/kz440.pdf
Then I would get out the instructions that came with the switch and look on the bottom of the switch for embossed markings that indicate the function of the various wires, and begin matching that way.
If the switch came with no instructions and is not marked, then I reckon you will get to spend some quality time with your favorite Ohm meter.

You might be able to find a youtube video for the ignition switch you got, whatever it is.
Often times the made in china junk doesn't have instructions or they're incomprehensible.
