1980 Kawasaki KZ 440 LTD A1 not getting power to the points
27 Jan 2021 18:39
I recently changed the points out on my bike now it is not getting power to the points. I have no idea what is going wrong with it. Anyone have any idea what I need to do to get this remedied?

Make sure the insulators on the wires are positioned correctly. The wires might be grounded out. Remove the wires and see if they have 12 volt when not connected to the points.

JP,
Get your voltmeter.
Put it on DC V
Ignition on/Engine off
All connectors connected
red probe on positive battery post(post being the metal part of the battery)
black probe on negative battery post
note voltage
rotate your engine till points are closed and put your red probe on the screw indicated by the pink arrow.
note voltage
rotate engine till points are completely open
note voltage
When point are closed your voltage should be below .5 volts. The lower the better.
When points are open your voltage will be close to battery voltage.
Turn off your bike
