Stock sprocket sizes on KZ-1000? was created by AR15Ron
Ok, I searched the forums and my good for nothing so called service manual.. nada. I want to go up 2 teeth in the back and see how I like it but I can't remember what size is on there now? I want to say it's a 35 does that sound like what a 1978 KZ-1000 would come with? I KNOW the front is a 15, they were supposed to give me both sprockets in the factory sizes when I replaced them years ago. That was 8 years ago, now I don't remember what they are!

Thanks!

I couldn't tell from your avatar pic if you have an A or B model 1000 so I checked both on the Kawasaki website. They list a 33 tooth rear sprocket as standard on both models as well as a 15 tooth countershaft sprocket on both. I'm actually very surprised that due to using a 16 inch rear wheel on the LTD they did not use a different gearing setup. Learn something new everyday.

It's an A model but I think I may have learned something too... I got a real Kawasaki service manual in the mail while I was asleep. It mentions one thing about rear sprocket size "The rear sprocket is larger (35 teeth vs. 33)." Not sure what it is larger than, but that's what it says.. So I ordered a 37, hopefully thats the right one! That strange thing is I don't think my wheels are for that bike at all. I have aluminum wheels and unlike the standard ones I see in a lot of pictures with a single vertical unpainted line, mine have 2 unpainted lines? I have no idea what they go to but the front wheel has the holes in it for a second brake rotor. My rear tire says 130/90x18. Makes me wonder. I'll try and take a pic later, maybe start a new thread to try and identify them!
