rear wheel id was created by Dutch Masters
I have a 79 kz400, that I thought had all original parts. However, I ordered a wheel brake shoes from Z1. But they didn't fit. the shoes were a little large. so I'm looking for help to figure out what rear wheel I have. I have attached some pictures if those will help with the ID.

So do you think that the wheel looks like the factory wheel for the 79 400 LTD? If so I will order another set of shoes and hope the first set were just out of spec.

What exactly do you mean by "the shoes were a little large"? To thick, or to wide?

With the shoes assembled on the brake, they were about 1/4 inch to large in diameter to fit inside the drum on the rear wheel. The backing part of the shoes fit on the brake accuator parts correclty, so I think the issue was the thickness of the friction material.

Did you retract the brake cam all the way? It should be vertical so as to not spread the shoes apart. the lining on motorcycle brake shoes is usually not very thick, maybe 1/8" or so, and being a 1/4" to large overall means that to fit you would have to take off all the lining. But the shoes fit the back plate, so that don't make any sense. Recheck and make sure the shoes are in place and assembled properly.
Can you post some more pics, including one of the shoes assembled on the actuator (brake hub)?

Well I thought that I had them assembled correctly. I have already sent the brake shoes back, before I took any picks. I have ordered another set from Z1. Hopefully I will put them on correctly. If I have the same issue I will post pics of the accuator assembly. If they fit I wiil post pics of me riding the bike on its maden voyage.
Thanks for the help so far.

Not that I have been much help
Did you check locally with Cycle ReCycle on 10th street in Indy? If they have a set in stock it would give you something to compare.

I have not checked with cycle recycle. If the new ones don't fit I will head over there and see if they have a set to compair to.
