new chain and sproket was created by oldkaws4ever
i figured i would go out for a ride today, i ended up stopping at a bike shop that only works on old kawi's. An all origanol 74 Z1 900 cought my eye, I ended up getting a free oil change because i know the owner, and there were no customers. Now for the bad news, i need a new chain and sproket's, so i had him order them. It's going to be $180.80 for a new 630/92 chainn and a 15front sproket and 35 rear. But the killer is the service rate is $80.00 and hour and he said it would be like an hour and halh, So it's going to be like 120.00 in labor. So 300.00 all together.

$97.20 Chain
$29.00 RearSpr.
$13.51 FrontSpr.
The above is for a '74Z1900 from Z1Enterprises
and if I can do it then anyone can change these (though I went w/530 chain).

ya 80.00 an hour is kinda steep for me, im going to give it a shot myself. From what i have heard it is easy to do the chain and sproket swap. I was reading up on the z1 900 chain and read that it was an endless chain with no master link?, if so can i just use my trusty dremmel to cut a link of chain in half? Or does the swingarm have to come off?

you can cut the chain, but you will need a riveting tool to put the new one back together, maybe your buddy will loan it to you it only takes a few minutes

I use a grindstone on my drill and grind off the peened-over rivet ends on a sideplate. the key is to do this against the rear sprocket so it doesn't wiggle all over the place.
Take a small chisel (or old flat screwdriver) and push it in between the outer plate and inner links and the side plate should pop off. It may come off with a lot of force so be careful, wear safety glasses, etc.
Sometimes it takes a whack from a hammer on that chisel to get it off.
I just ordered my 530 converson from Z1Ent...
If you search on 630 conv you will see a link explaining it and how to determine what sprockets you need for the job.

thanks for all the info guy's. I think it should go together pretty easy. i have done a sproket and chain change on my dirtbikes before, and that was easier than i thought. I always hate the idea of somebody else working on my baby, even though all the guys at this shop were kawi mechanics back in the 70's, i just like the fact of knowing the job was done right, and nothing was comprimised. Im sure the majority if not all of you guys feel the same way.

well i just got my sprokets and chain on, and what a difference. I took it on a 35 mile ride or so, when i lay into the throtle she pulls like a freight train, and it is so much quieter now that the chain isint bouncing up and down. Also when i rad the rear wheel off i went ahead and replaced the bearings, now the rear wheel spins so freely
