Any reason why you might not lace a 19" rim to the rear hub and use a lower profile 19" tire on the rear? Then both front & rear would be 19".
Why did they use 19" on the front & 18" on the back when thes bike were made?

I have NO idea?!
You could relace it with a 19" but keep in mind the extra gyroscopic effect the 19" rim might play.
There was a really good article, in a cycle magazine, about front rim sizes and how the 16" rim(s) might make a return.
