Any guru's in Maryland?

The one thing that I see in you pile of leftover parts that concerns me is the transmission cover. That goes on the cases BEFOREthe outer cover is put on. If that is missing and you try to start the bike up you are going to have one hell of a mess.

I saw that too this wekend. Is it sealed on or just put on?

There is a gasket that goes between the cover and the engine cases and it should be held on with 6 mm philips head screws. I can't tell from the pics but your cover may still have a gasket attached. You may be able to use some silicone sealer on it and re-use the existing gasket. That cover should also have a shift shaft seal, a clutch pushrod seal and a countershaft seal in it as well. You need to put tht cover back on or else you will have oil running out all over the place on start up.

that trans cover looks like a chain drive cover.....
shaft bike has a bevel gear housing instead.

The bike is a shaft drive, but now Im a little confused. Is the cover I got for a chain drive?

Ok, found a guy "Graddy" who took a look at my bike and said its not too far off from at least running, but he said I have a lot of little issues that need to be addressed before riding, and Im cool with that. He said he can take care of everything, and didnt charge me much at all. I ordered a clutch cable from bikebandit and when that comes in, we will get started on my bike. He said he will also show me, stuff so I can learn a little, and Im all for that! I cant wait to hear that babby run! I'll report back here after we make some progress. Thanks guys for all your help! Im sure once we get it started, I'll be back asking more stupid questions, just hang in there with me until I somewhat know what Im doing.

I've already moved out of MD and honestly wouldnt be any help even if I was still around. However, I can certainly tell you to check out a place called Baltimore Cycle Salvage if you need parts. They are in the phone book and it's effectively a two man operation. It's a real huge warehouse in B-more with more parts for more things than you can shake a stick at. PLus the prices are reasonable.
The guy tried all last summer to help me get a leak fixed for a Rebel 250 tank. I ended up selling the thing, moving to New Mexico and buying a Kz650.
Anyway, I wish I was still in the area because having the place around made shopping for parts way easier.

I'am pleased to report after a long time I got my KZ up and running!!!! Heard it run for the first time in 4 1/2 years This past Sunday night. Now, to get it running nice and smooth, I just need a few parts and I'll be on the road in no time!
