All photos are shrunk down to fit this page, save them to your hard drive and open with the image viewer of your preference in order to see them full-size. I use IrfanView , it's free & easy.
Here are some shots of the rearsets I recently kludged together. I used a ZX6 shifter and a M10-1.25x100mm bolt, some rubber hose, washers, nylon bushings, a spring from a fake Bigsby guitar vibrato tailpiece, electric drill, Dremel, various files & rotary bits, X-Acto knife, some lithium spray grease, a chop saw, a mig welder and a little Southern Engineering. (If you're not a Southerner, well, use your imagination.)
Flip the peg mounts upside down, switch sides, cut the stop strap off (it's what the peg normally rests on, but will now prevent the peg from folding back in the even of an accident). You keep the right peg on the right side and vice versa. Put your pegs into their new homes.
Cut about 2.5" out of the brake pedal, weld back together. The right side is now done.
Moving to the left side, remove the upper peg mounting stud from the frame. There's a backing nut on the inner side of the frame, you'll have to remove this and you might need to use vise grips on the stud to get it out.
Cut about an inch or so out of the shift lever tie rod. Re-weld.
Cut a piece of nylon bushing to match the width of the shift lever. Put it on the M10 bolt, put the shift lever over that, then a washer, the spring, another washer, rubber hose (my peg bracket bushings were shot), the peg mounting bracket, another washer, and screw it into the frame. Back it up with the locking nut on the inner side of the frame.
Crawl around on the floor.
You may need to grind some stuff to get everything to fit and function together in a harmonious manner. Use your best judgment.
I've been using this setup for two and a half years now and I've had zero problems with it. This operation moves the pegs up about 3" and about 7" rearward. You get more clearance and control and it's actually pretty comfortable, not quite so extreme as the riding position on a lot of modern sport bikes, yet more sporty and confidence inspiring than the stock position.
You get to keep your passenger pegs, too!
Let me know if you have any questions.

This is what I do for fun, not for work. It is art, with a little engineering thrown in.

What year was the ZX shifter, or are most kawasaki sport bike shifters interchangeable?
