I want to improve the handling of the KZ750F in my shop right now, and have a line on some GPZ550 forks, is this swap "worth it"- also- I want to run the same stock rim, so if there are better forks, I want them to be compatable with with these rims (1983 KZ750F)

I have a set of forks off a 83 GPz550, and they are only 35mm in diameter vs 36mm (I'm pretty sure) for the 750 forks.
Probably the most cost effective way to improve the handling is Progressive fork springs with the proper weight oil.
The time and cost escalates from there.

The 81 gpz 550 used 36mm forks. The later gpz 550's used 35mm forks, but with a thicker wall to make them stiffer than the 36 forks.
When I buy spring kits from Works, I buy the ones for a KZ750 (they are 28mm diameter springs).

If you want to go with a GPz fork, get one from a 1982 GPz750. They swap right in and have an air balance tube, plus a non-offset axle (the LTD axle won't work with them, nor will the fender or brake caliper brackets: different geometry).
Your best bet is to use the fork that came with the bike, put in fresh seals and some Progressive springs and fabricate an air balance tube.
