best way to clean up/clean out an old mast. cyl. was created by primemover
Hi all....
I have a mast. cyl. from an ~1980 KZ440 and am going to use it on my 1978 KZ400 (figured out that this SHOULD be ok)...
anyway, the mast. cyl. is in good shape, but looks awlful...
i've taken it all apart, emptied it out, taken off all the brakelines (working on the calipers some other day)...
the outside needs some TLC (i figure, sand it down, perhaps prime it, then paint it)...
the inside has some "goop" at the bottom (brown/tanish)...
is there some kind of solvent i should use (or just elbow grease)?
thanks...

You can use brake fluid to clean it, I have used alcohol too. Buy some small brushes. A gun cleaning brush kit would come in handy.

You can clean it with dot5 fluid if you don't want the paint further ruined, or denatured alcohol.

since you are rebuilding it, use some carb cleaner, that should remove all the nasty stuff, then clean it well with brake fulid to remove any residue left.
I would also put dot 5 in the new rebuilt system, a whole lot better product
