\"Hooks\" on rear of frame? was created by Aric
Recently picked up an 82 550 LTD. Was out looking at the frame near rear fender and noticed 2 L-shaped "hooks" on either side of frame near the stock turn signal mounting holes. The "hooks" are L shaped about 3/16 diameter with a 1/4 inch ball at the end. Anybody know what I'm referring to and what it's purpose is? The bike is almost completely disassembled so it may become obvious on reassembly but I was just curious. Thanks in advance. Sorry no pics right now.

No big mystery, those hooks are there to attach bungie cords to.

Nuh uh, those are "grab hooks" for passengers with tiny fingers.
The Gringo is right, those are hooks to be used when anchoring something (passenger helmet, small package, etc) to the back seat with bungee cords.
IIRC though, they should be pointing straight down, not bent into an "L" shape?
It's likely that the PO of your bike figured that the little "balls" on the ends weren't enough to keep the bungee cord hooks from slipping off, so he/she bent them. :S

Actually there are 4 of these, the 2 at the rear are bent in an L shape they start out running horizontal towards the rear and then bend vertical. There are also two that are in front of the shock mounts that point straight down. I would guess the best way to use them would be to criss cross them ie: rt. rear to lf. and lr. to rf. Funny I never paid much attention to them.

Thanks Guys!, kinda figured that's what it was, now I remember using them for just that purpose on my 650 years ago.But I've been known to use many things for purposes they were not designed for. The P.O. has also twisted the fuses, selonoids, wires, switches, etc into a huge snaking mess, as well as installing non KZ turn signals. Anybody seen any decent pics on the forumof a correctly mounted and wired fuse/wiring block or know where I can find an easy to read wiring diagram (manual is a bit confusing). At very least can someone confirm my assumption that KZ's do run on a 2-wire turn signal system?

My 650 runs a 2 wire system up front (with an internal ground) one for the running lights and one for the turn signal.
In rear it is 2 wires, just turn signal and ground.
