New spokes or clean old ones? was created by oldkaws4ever
im going to start tearing into the z1 in a few weeks. I was crusing Z1 enterprises, and seen a spoke set for the front and rear wheel for 135.00. The spokes on the z1 are rusty but solid, would i be better off trying to clean them or just splurjing and getting brand new ones?

I'd only go with new ones if the old ones have worn past factory specs. Save the splurging for a part you must have new and there only 2 left in the country. Unless, of course, you really hate cleaning things!

Could try using strips of crocus cloth. Place around spoke and pull back and forth. Then protect with treatment of choice (clear-spray, wax, Pam, whatever).

Besides, had me going with the bit about spokes being worn beyond factory specs.

I read sprokets the first time around and got real confused when arobsum said "relacing a rim..."(?)
