14 tooth front sprocket z900 yes?? was created by GregZ
I have a stock 75 z900 with 29 smoothbores and V&H header. Currently have the dyno cover off to fix oil leak and have the front sprocket cover off as well. Now is a good to time to change front sprocket to a 14 tooth. How much difference will this make. I Do NO long distance riding, just hotrod around the area with the fella's. Will I notice any performance difference with a 14/35 compared with the stock 15/35. Thanks

I put a 14 on the front of my 1000 years ago and there was a difference. Dropping 1 tooth on the front is like going up 3 in the rear. There is no power difference in the bike, the gearing just moves the rpm compared to road speed so you can be in the middle of the torque instead of the beginning for the same road speed/gear.

This is a easy one.
WHEELY TIME
You will lose about 10-15 mph at the top end,
and stop light to stop light will come a lot quicker.
You might wont to do a little cam timing to
smooth out your throttle.

I dropped 1 tooth on my 650 years ago and it is a noticable differance!! I was about 500rpm higher in 5th gear on the freeway. First gear winds up real quick!! Just remember that a smaller sprocket can tend to promote faster chain wear also...
